Admission guidelines

These guidelines explain how admission works at St. Mary’s Ruaraka School. Please read them before you book an interview. If anything is not clear, call the school office on 0722 555 713.

1. Who can apply

  • Kindergarten: Reception (3 to 4 years), PP1 (4 to 5 years) and PP2 (5 to 6 years).
  • Primary School: Grades 1 to 6 (6 to 12 years).
  • Junior School: Grades 7 and 8 (12 to 14 years). Grade 9 follows next year.
  • We welcome day scholars and boarders.

2. How to apply

  1. Fill in the Book Admission form on this page and choose the class your child needs.
  2. The school office will call you to agree a date for an interview and a short visit.
  3. Come with your child and the documents listed below.
  4. After the interview we will tell you whether there is a place in the class.
  5. A place is confirmed once the admission paperwork is signed and the first payment has been received.

3. Documents to bring

  • A copy of your child’s birth certificate.
  • Your child’s immunisation (clinic) card.
  • The latest school report, or a transfer or leaving letter, if your child is joining from another school.
  • Two recent passport-size photographs of your child.
  • A copy of the ID of the parent or guardian who will be responsible for the school fees.

4. The interview

Your child meets a teacher for a short, friendly conversation and a few simple activities. This helps us place your child in the right class. It is not a pass-or-fail test. Parents meet the school management to talk about expectations, fees and school routines.

5. Fees and payments

The fee structure, payment dates and payment methods are shared at the interview. Please pay only into the school’s official accounts and keep every receipt.

6. Day scholars and boarders

Boarders need the items on the school’s boarding list, which the office gives you with the admission letter. Day scholars are collected only by a parent, a guardian, or an adult you have named to the school in writing.

7. Uniform and school items

The office will give you the uniform and stationery list. Please write your child’s name clearly on every item.

8. Your child’s health

Tell us about any allergy, medical condition or medicine your child needs, so that we can look after your child well.

9. School rules and your information

By ticking the box on the form you agree to follow the school rules, which are set out on our School Policies page, and to work with us for your child’s progress. We use the information you give us only for admission and for talking with you about your child’s school life, as explained in our Privacy Policy.
